Wow, there's something I haven't seen for a while - as I type, there's a test card on BBC2. Actually, there were two - apologies for my non-specialist language, but... now showing is J, with the usual noughts-and-crosses board, but before that was an odd one, totally different, with a smallish dark reddish circle in the middle and "16:9" across that circle. A sort of animation went round the edge of the circle. I only saw it for about five seconds before J replaced it, so didn't catch the rest of it, I'm afraid. I Googled a bit, but couldn't find a picture of the earlier one anywhere. Hopefully those in the know will have a better idea! =:P

burkesworks did indeed have a better idea - it's "BBC Two animated colour bars", as linked to in his comment here. I guess it's just luck, but I don't ever remember seeing that particular one before.
